About.
Claire Stapleton is a self-taught, New Zealand born artist based in Sydney, Australia.
Inspired by the human form and the connections we have with each, Stapleton’s work is a continuous journey as she explores both conscious and unconscious responses through the process of painting on paper, raw linen and cotton canvas, and ceramics. With only 3 years in her practice, her use of expressive colours, gestures and form is ever evolving. Her current interest is in the negative space around us, and exploring dynamic brush strokes and colour palettes to bring to life playful impasto portraits.
Despite being an emerging artist, you'll already find Stapleton's work hanging in private homes and businesses around the world.

Putting Pen To Paper + An Organised Life
Beck and the AOL team do a Putting Pen To Paper series, features different individuals & showcases what they use their favourite notebook for. It could be for to-do lists, sketching, design, song writing, illustrations, notes, daily gratitudes & everything in between.
In March, 2022 I was lucky enough to share the inside of my notebook and studio in this article.
Maman x Artist in Residence
I was thrilled to be asked by Maman boutique in Auckland New Zealand to collaborate with co-founder Emma in the creation of two one-off pieces 'Pearls' and 'Mother' in 2022.
Daphnes Commission.
I was appointed to create a custom artwork for new Auckland restaurant, Daphnes.
‘The Reflection: A Portrait of Daphne’, 2021.
‘Strong yet calm, Daphne’s portrait of two sittings, balances the dichotomy of feminine and masculine. And evokes questions of self-reflection and the imperfections humanity faces when we openly look into ourselves.‘
The symmetry of this piece really speaks to me - the two sides of Daphne the woman and the goddess. The balances we face today with our masculine and feminine sides. And also the desire for beauty - symmetry, of course, being that unattainable beauty. And so the imperfection of Daphne's symmetry is also a reminder to humanity - that imperfection can be beautiful.
A complimentary piece is in the making, this time telling the story of Apollo and Daphne.
La Tribe x By Claire.
I recently teamed up with La Tribe to create a single line drawing that embodies the La Tribe spirit. A female outline, inspiring hope and strength, intertwined with a rose, symbolising new beginnings and the courage to change.
